About Hacienda El Refguio
A training and retreat center designed to help people grow in their relationship with Christ through creation and adventure-based programming.
Offers retreats that combine adventure elements with intentional gospel-centered reflection and discipleship.
Hosts discipleship and leadership training programs that equip believers for ministry and train them in camp and outdoor leadership.
Functions as both a local ministry hub for Ecuadorian churches and a training ground for emerging Christian leaders.
Ministry Goals
The ministry focuses on discipleship, leadership development, and equipping Ecuadorian believers to serve in their local churches and communities. Their goal is to see lives transformed by the gospel and a new generation of Christ-centered leaders equipped to impact Ecuador for God’s kingdom.
Current Roles & Responsibilities
Recruitment & Mobilization:
Engage with U.S. short-term mission teams, interns, and missionary staff.
Recruit and prepare new workers and volunteers to serve with El Refugio.
Fundraising & Project Development:
Lead efforts to raise financial support for ministry projects, facility needs, and scholarships for Ecuadorian participants.
Partner with churches and individuals to strengthen the sustainability of El Refugio’s outreach.
Teaching & Mentorship:
Regularly travel to Ecuador to teach and mentor within El Refugio’s internship and discipleship programs.
Lead work and ministry teams on-site, helping them engage directly in service, evangelism, and cross-cultural ministry.
Mission Leadership:
Coordinate and host annual mission teams from the U.S., including groups from Camp-of-the-Woods.
Build bridges between North American and Ecuadorian believers for long-term partnership and mutual encouragement.
The Borman’s hosted COTW’s LIFT Discipleship Program’s annual spring misison trip to Ecuadaor for 10 consecutive years. Now the Borman’s assist leading yearly COTW mission trips to assist with El Refugio’s ministry.
