Tapawingo is a Christian girls’ camp located on a beautiful island in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. Serving girls ages 9–17, Tapawingo is known for its breathtaking setting and its commitment to biblical excellence in every area of ministry. Named from a Native American word meaning “place of joy,” Tapawingo reflects just that — a joyful place where hearts are renewed, friendships flourish, and girls encounter the life-changing love of Christ.
Often described by campers as a haven of rest and refreshment, Tapawingo is a place where girls can simply be themselves — free from the pressures and expectations of everyday life. Here, young women discover God’s unconditional love for them through Jesus Christ, grow in a deeper understanding of His Word, and are equipped to step into all He’s calling them to with confidence, joy, and purpose.
Who We Are

Our Mission
Our purpose is to clearly and lovingly glorify Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior through personal example, meaningful activity, Biblical direction, and Christ-centered relationships in a friendly environment that promotes healthy growth and development in all areas of a young woman's life.

Our Story
Tapawingo began in 1959 as an extension of the ministry vision of CAMP-of-the-WOODS — to create a Christ-centered summer sanctuary specifically for girls. What started as a bold step of faith to purchase a small island on Lake Pleasant quickly grew into a transformative discipleship space built through prayer, grit, and volunteers who hauled lumber across frozen waters and trusted God with every detail.
The bold vision to disciple young women has now become a 60-year legacy of campers discovering who they are in Christ, surrendering their lives to Him, and stepping into leadership with confidence, joy, and purpose.
Through the faithful leadership of directors over the decades, Tapawingo has remained a place where thousands of girls hear the life-changing call of Christ, grow in truth and courage, find lifelong sisterhood, and are equipped to boldly live for His glory — wherever He calls them next.
