South Asia Trip

May 17 - June 2, 2027

Application Deadline: December 18

Bridge Cultures Through Meaningful Connections

On this trek through the Himalayan mountains, we partner with a global missions organization focused on building relationships and sharing the good news. You’ll visit remote villages, connect with local residents, hear their stories, and share your own.

Along the way, experience breathtaking landscapes, learn from trekking guides, and engage in unique opportunities to encourage and bless the communities you meet.

The Missions Experience

Each mission trip includes a blend of ministry, cultural experiences, and learning from local partners. Below is a sample schedule to help you picture what the experience will look like.

  • The trip costs $2,700 per person.

Please note: This price covers all meals, lodging, in-country travel, and the program fee. It does not include personal expenses such as airfare, transportation to and from your U.S. departure airport, or personal spending money. (Total estimated cost with airfare and personal expenses: $4,000-$4,200.)

Participants are responsible for booking their own round-trip travel to and from South Asia.

After being accepted to the team, you’ll be required to submit a nonrefundable deposit of $500 to secure your spot within one week of acceptance.

  • Tim Trezise, the CAMP-of-the-WOODS Missions Director, will serve as your trip leader. Tim has a contagious passion for the gospel, global missions, and outdoor adventure. Over the past 15 years, Tim has led COTW members and LIFT students on mission trips to a variety of places. This is Tim’s third time leading this specific trip to the Himalayas.

  • Because of the trekking aspect of the trip, participants must be between 20 and 60 years old and possess strong physical fitness and endurance. All applicants should be capable of running 2 miles in under 20 minutes or hiking at least 8 miles with a 40-pound pack over hilly, mountainous terrain in under 5 hours. This ensures that participants can safely and effectively handle the physical demands of the trip.

  • No prior knowledge of the language is required. We will learn a few basic Hindi phrases before and during the trip, but most communication will happen through a translator who will be with our team. Even with a language barrier, meaningful connections are often built through simple conversations, shared activities, and the exchange of stories.

  • We partner with a global missions organization that focuses on building relationships and sharing the good news.

  • We’ll stay in a variety of accommodations throughout the trip. We’ll spend a few nights in hotels, four nights in nice cottages in the countryside, and four nights camping during the mountain trek.

  • When staying at the cottages or hotel, breakfast and dinner will be provided on site, and lunch will be eaten at local restaurants. During the trek, meals will be prepared for us by our porters. Plan to enjoy plenty of rice and curry!

Safe drinking water is available at every site we visit.

  • During the trek, the trekking company will provide tents, and meals will be prepared by the porters. The porters will carry the tents, cooking gear, and food. Participants will carry their own packs (about 35 pounds) with personal items such as sleeping bags, sleeping pads, clothing, water, and snacks.

  • To prepare for the trip, we’ll hold 6 pre-trip Zoom meetings focused on team building, spiritual preparation, and logistics. Together, we’ll get to know one another, walk through David Platt’s Bible study Something Needs to Change, and review travel details and ministry opportunities.

Cultural orientation and outreach training will take place on the ground during the trip.

Participant Testimonies

  • “A memorable moment on the trip was when I shared about the passing of my mother and father, and how both they and I have the sure hope of eternal life.”

    — Curtis M.

  • “One of the most memorable and meaningful moments of the trip was when we were on top of the mountain and looked out at the massive valley filled with many villages. The sobering moment for me was when it was pointed out which Christians lived where. This was impactful because there were so few Christians who had persevered through persecution. It was a great way to show the intense need in the community.”

    — James S.

  • “This trip pushed my limits mentally, physically, and spiritually in a new place and culture. It was incredible to be surrounded by people from different walks of life who offered a range of perspectives. I flew there with strangers and returned with friends.”

    — Max B.

  • “One of the best moments was swimming in the glacier river after 5 days of trekking. We had just made it over the pass where we were rewarded with incredible views. The water was refreshing and rejuvenating.”

    —Ben S.
