Speaker Requirements
Essential Doctrines of the Christian Faith
All speakers at CAMP-of-the-WOODS must affirm the Gospel Volunteers, Inc. Statement of Faith.
Our Statement of Faith is not comprehensive or denomination-specific but reflects the essential faith components embraced by most Christian denominations. It is intended to define the minimal common ground from which ministry at CAMP-of-the-WOODS proceeds.
Communicate in a way that is appropriate for the setting and audience.
Faithfully teach and communicate the Word of God.
Work cooperatively with Camp staff and respond to reasonable direction regarding scheduling, facilities, technology, and other aspects of the ministry.
Affirm and uphold the Essential Doctrines of the Christian Faith required by Gospel Volunteers, Inc.
Represent CAMP-of-the-WOODS and its mission appropriately during your time at Camp.
Prepare thoughtfully for the teaching opportunities assigned to you.
Help us create an environment in which members feel welcomed, encouraged, and challenged to grow in their relationship with Christ.
Be mindful of the diverse ages, backgrounds, and spiritual maturity represented among our members.
Your Speaking Engagement
Your specific speaking responsibilities will vary depending on whether you are serving as a Chapel speaker or Quest speaker. Your schedule and assignments are specified below.
Chapel
Summer Chapel speakers are asked to:
Preach a total of six (6) sermons throughout the week, Sunday through Friday.
Prepare sermons that are approximately 40 minutes in length.
Share a 20-minute devotional with Kids’ Klub staff on Friday morning
-
Each summer, approximately 40 staff members, primarily college-age women, serve in Kids' Klub. These staff members teach and care for children during many of the services and are often unable to hear directly from our member speakers.
On Friday morning, Chapel speakers are asked to share a 20-minute devotional with the Kids' Klub staff.
You are welcome to:
Expand your weekly theme.
Teach a new topic.
Share a brief testimony.
Present another message that you believe would encourage and challenge this group.
Quest
Quest is a smaller, more teaching-focused setting for adults. Quest speakers are asked to:
Speak in the Quest Series Monday through Friday.
Speak in Teen Chapel on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.
Highlight the day's Quest topic in Main Chapel on weekday mornings.
For Main Chapel, the Quest speaker will briefly introduce the day's topic and lead the congregation in prayer before worship. On Monday, the introduction may include a brief overview of the speaker's overall theme and topics for the week. Tuesday through Friday, the introduction should generally be approximately two minutes.
Additional details regarding the Teen program will be provided by the Director of Teen Ministry as the season approaches.
-
Because unexpected circumstances can arise, there may be occasions when a Chapel speaker is unexpectedly unable to fulfill a scheduled speaking assignment.
When appropriate, Camp may ask the Quest speaker to step in and lead a Chapel service. This is a contingency rather than a standard expectation, and it will depend on the individual speaker's qualifications, availability, and the circumstances of the situation.
If you are a Quest speaker who may be asked to serve in this capacity, we will communicate that with you in advance whenever possible. Our hope is simply that, when an unexpected need arises, we can work together to care well for our members and maintain the ministry of the week.
Please note: We ask you to be mindful of the time allotted for your speaking sessions and plan accordingly. Camp’s daily schedule includes meals, other sessions, activities, and childcare, all of which depend on sessions ending on time. When a session runs over, it affects not only the next scheduled event but also the staff and families coordinating these activities.
Thank you for helping us keep the schedule on track by concluding your sessions within the designated time.
